Sandip Chauhan began his career as a Management Accountant but always harboured secret desires to run his own business! Together with his university friend Ket Patel, who had a background in IT, in 2004 they conducted research into possible industries and business models that would be viable options.
Wisely, in order to minimise the risk involved, they wanted to launch a business they could start on a part time basis and nurture over time until they would be in a position to give up their full time careers. The franchise model neatly fitted into this philosophy as neither of them had started a business before and the many risks involved in a start-up where not appealing.
The pair identified Jani-King as a well established franchise option with a proven business model and were impressed by their international franchise ranking. After meeting with a Jani-King director, Sandip was convinced by the professionalism of the organisation and the long-term opportunities available in the commercial cleaning industry – he was ready to commit to his new business, agreeing on a Plan 22.
‘The training structure incorporated all elements necessary to run a successful commercial cleaning franchise from specific cleaning techniques for different purposes and sound business guidance to visiting other franchisees for practical advice and experience which also helped us to build a support network.’
Through a combination of large, national contracts received through Jani-King with the Guaranteed Business Promise and other local clients that Sandip and Ket won themselves, the pair were soon able to concentrate on their business full time. Jani-King allowed them the freedom to grow the business how they wanted and they built up a wealth of contracts the length and breadth of the country from Plymouth to Leeds. More recently, Sandip and Ket decided to consolidate the business in order to achieve a better work/life balance. They currently employ approximately 90 people and have an impressive, diverse list of clients ranging from restaurants, commercial offices, gyms, cinemas and superstores, all serviced by his trusted teams.
‘My advice for new franchisees is to be prepared to get your hands dirty! Understanding all aspects of your business from the ground up is crucial to meeting and surpassing your clients’ needs and ultimately providing a first class service. Word of mouth recommendations are the best and most efficient way to win new business so it is crucial to consistently delight your clients.’
